Oyo State Police Command has said that the 147 passengers that were intercepted at Bodija Market in Ibadan are farmers and traders, heading to Ogere, Ogun State, against speculations that they are terrorists.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, said this in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Adéwálé Osifeso.
The statement explained that the passengers of the blue Iveco truck with registration number BWR 143 XD, driven by one Abdulahi Aliu, aged 30, from Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, were heading to Ogere, Ogun State, to continue their businesses as farmers and traders.
It said further, that the truck was thoroughly searched by a combined team of Police, DSS, and Amotekun, to eliminate possibilities of ferrying escapees from any recorded jailbreaks in the country, but nothing incriminating was found.
The search revealed that 8 motorcycles, bags of beans and onions that were to be dropped off with their owners at Bodija Market were found in the vehicle. The statement added that the truck and its passengers were later escorted out of the state and handed over to security operatives in Ogun State.
