Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has approved N14 million to the state-owned football club, Bayelsa United, for the victory over visiting AS Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea, in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The match played at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, saw the Bayelsa team winning by four goals to two.
Governor Douye Diri, before the tournament, first presented the team with a brand new Coaster bus.
This was in fulfillment of his promise to them during a reception in honour of the boys when they emerged champions of the 2021 AITEO Cup last month in Benin, Edo State.
The CAF Confederation Cup game also saw the governor watch with keen interest, as the Bayelsa team again emerged victorious, trashing the AS Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea four goals to two.
The elated Governor Diri spared no time in honouring the boys with cash gifts, for yet bringing glory to the state.
The splashing of the N14million includes ten million Naira for the team and one million for each goal scored.
