The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad has resigned on the grounds that he needed to attend to his health. This resignation is coming days after he was petitioned by the Supreme Court Justices

His media aide, Ahuraka Yusuf Isah confirmed this in a straight-to-the-point statement some moment ago.

Isah, who had earlier denied knowledge of the development, said the next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola would be sworn-in later on Monday by President Mohammadu Buhari.

The CJN was supposed to be at a training workshop for judges, organised by the National Judicial Institute (NJI). He was scheduled to declare open the event.

It was gathered that Justice Muhammed came into his office earlier today, without his usual retinue of security details.
