The ongoing Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Calabar, the Cross River State has taken another dimension, as the Peoples Democratic Party and its Candidate inform the court of intention to step down the 2nd and 3rd petitions to enable them concentrate on the remaining two.
The 2nd and 3rd petition was specifically to challenge what the petitioners described as irregularities, violence, non compliance of the electoral laws among others during the last governorship election in Cross River State.
The PDP lead Counsel, Joshua Musa SAN, said their position to abandon the 2nd and 3rd petition is to enable them concentrate on the main issue before the court.
Speaking shortly after the hearing and cross examination proceeding at the Moore road venue of the tribunal, Counsel to Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Mike Ozekhome SAN, however said with the stepping down of the two petitions, the petitioners have shown that the election was free and fair
The PDP and its Candidate, Sandy Onor, had approached the tribunal to challenge the qualification of the APC Governorship Candidate and its running mate as well as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who declared Bassey Otu and his deputy winners of the March 18 Governorship election in Cross River State.
