At least one thousand five hundred teachers have been sacked in Cross River State in the past eight years for having fake certificates as part of the state government’s measures to guarantee quality education.
Chairman of the State’s Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB Stephen Odey stated this in Calabar while giving an account of his eight-year stewardship.
Odey said a few of the affected teachers who went back to school and returned with relevant qualifications are waiting for the governor’s approval for reinstatement while the majority of the rest have disappeared.
Raypower reports that the SUBEB Chairman urged his successor not to relent in getting quality teachers with genuine certificates into the state primary and post primary schools.
He said if quality education is guaranteed for all the citizens, there will be improvement in quality pupils and studens as well as their productivity.
