The Edo State Government has urged the people to disregard a recent statement credited to the All Progressives Congress APC in the state which raised a false alarm that the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki is sponsoring a protest.
In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie said the Governor as Chief Security Officer of the State is committed to the security and safety of the people and does not engage in actions that are self-destructive.
He accused the All Progressives Congress of returning to what he described as ‘their usual trade of deliberately concocting lies .
He called on the people and all Nigerians to totally disregard the claim and go about their lawful activities without fear.
Recall that a notice of protest was allegedly issued by Edo Civil Society Organisation calling on many to come out in protest across different centres in the sate in a show of dissatisfaction with the result of the presidential election that was conducted on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, where the Presidential Candidate of APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu was declared the President Elect by INEC.
The protest notice was widely circulated in a WhatsApp broadcast, a notice that the Edo Civil Society Organisation has since released a disclaimer, denying ever releasing such notice.
