The defense counsel led by Joseph Daudu SAN, prayed the court to grant the defendant bail on self recognizance and other liberal terms pending the hearing and determination of the trial, noting the non-existence of a counter affidavit from the Federal government.

Daudu also asked the court to end the oppression of the defendant by the DSS.

Counsel for the prosecution, in her remarks, opposed the bail application saying it hasn’t been given enough time to respond.

Jones who urged the court to dismiss the application added that they have information that the defendant had refused to hand in his passport,  suggesting his capability to abscond from his trial, while  granting him bail may intimidate the prosecutions witnesses who have come forward to give evidence.

However Justice Nicholas Oweibo in granting the defendant bail noted that there was evidence that the Federal government was served the bail application.

Emefiele who was arraigned on a two count charge bordering on illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
