Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, popularly called ‘Taskforce, yesterday demolished some illegal shanties  around Toyota/Ladipo/Charity axis bus stop along the Apapa Oshodi Expressway  on the order of the federal government.
The demolition exercise according to the Federal Comptroller of works in Lagos, Popoola Olukayode was part of exercise to rid the Oshodi Apapa expressway of illegal structures to paVe way for ongoing reconstruction work on the expressway.
Popoola explained that Prior to the demolition, the Minister of Works and housing, Babatunde Fashola visited the area on January 14, and asked all residents doing business on the right of way along the expressway to remove their property while a notice was served on the occupants later to remove their structures.
He said the demolition exercise would be sustained to ensure total compliance as beautification and rehabilitation exercise along the axis starts immediately.
Owners of the seized properties including vehicles have been asked to go to the office the State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, to reclaim their items but would have to sign an undertaken not go back to the highway to continue their businesses.
