FG PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR MECHANIZED FARMING TO BOOST FOOD SECURITY.

The Nigerian government has launched the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy ( NATIP), 2022 – 2027.

The minister of Agriculture and rural development, Mohammad Abubakar, said during the launch in Abuja on Friday that the policy is a pathway to achieving food security in Nigeria.

The national agriculture technology and innovation policy, NATIP, is a 6-year policy strategy aimed at sustainable development of national technology and innovations capability to fast-track import substitution with particular emphasis on strengthening value chains for priority crops.

The minister of agriculture and rural development, Mohammad Abubakar is optimistic that the policy will build synergies with sub-nationals, and generate and disseminate appropriate technologies and innovations that suit the needs of farmers.

Other speakers said the policy will Provide a road map for three thematic approaches to address challenges such as poverty, hunger, and malnutrition.

The policy is envisioned to help achieve sustainable economic and social change through public and private sector investments in agriculture and rural development.

It is also targeted at addressing the needs of women, youth, and persons with special needs through deliberate efforts to inject technology and innovative techniques into agriculture.
