FORMER REGISTRAR OF JAMB GRANTED 200 MILLION NAIRA BAIL PENDING HIS TRIAL

Written by on July 8, 2021

Former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Adedibu Ojerinde, has been granted bail in the sum of 200 million naira and two sureties in like sum pending the hearing of the trial of his funds’ diversion case.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu in ruling on a bail application said the two sureties must own landed properties within Abuja metropolis out of which one of them must be a professor.

Following the earlier bail application by Ojerinde’s counsel, Peter Olorunnishola, at the last sitting, the prosecution counsel, Ebenezer Shogunle, told the court that Professor Ojerinde did not meet up with the administrative bail conditions previously granted to him.

Shogunle alleged that the defendant who claimed ill health did not have any medical report to back up the claim and should therefore be denied bail.

He also told the court that the defendant has been negotiating a plea bargain while making efforts for the matter to be stalled.

The trial has been adjourned to the 22nd of July 2020 for commencement of trial.

Professor Ojerinde had earlier pleaded not guilty to an 18-count charge of diversion of public funds estimated at over N900 million, levelled against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
