Four officers have been detained for questioning in Burkina Faso, a prosecutor said on Thursday, a day after the military government announced it had thwarted a coup attempt.
The four are suspected of involvement in a “conspiracy against state security.
Military prosecutor, Ahmed Ferdinand Sountoura says two others are on the run.
Burkina Faso’s security and intelligence services had foiled a coup attempt on Tuesday, alleging that officers and others had planned to destabilize the country and throw it into chaos.
It is almost a year since the interim President Capt Ibrahim Traoré seized power in the country’s second coup of 2022, amidst growing Islamist insurgency.
The junta had said elections will take place by July next year.
