Former Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila has resigned from the House of Representatives to take up his role as Chief of Staff to the president.
His letter of resignation was presented on the floor of the house today and read by the speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.
Following the resignation of the former speaker of the house, Abbas Tajudeen, his seat has been declared vacant by the speaker of the house.
Gbajabiamila has been representing Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos state in the green chamber since 2003 and was re-elected for the 6th term until his appointment.
Recall, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed the former speaker as the chief of staff to the President on Friday 2nd of June, and there were apprehensions as to how the lawmaker would manage the appointment after winning re-election into the Federal House for the 10th National Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will now have to conduct a fresh election to fill the role left by the former speaker.
