GERNOT ROHR INVITES CLUBLESS AHMED MUSA AND 23 OTHERS FOR AFCON QUALIFIERS.

The Nigerian football federation has released a 24-man list for the AFCON 2022 qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho. Six players were put on stand-by for the ties.
Nigeria sits top of the Group E table with eight points (one ahead of Benin Republic and five more than third-placed Sierra Leone)
In the full list, goalkeepers are Maduka Okoye, Francis Uzoho and J. Nobble. The defence line-up also has Willams Troost Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Leon Balogun, Chidozie Awaziem, Jamilu Collins, Zaidu Sanusi, Ola Aina and Tyronne Ebuehi.
The midfielders are Wilfred Ndidi, Ogenekaro Etebo, Semi Ajayi, Shehu Abdullahi and Joe Aribo while the forwards are Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Kalu, Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze and Sadiq Umar.

Rohr has over time insisted that players who are not active in their clubs will not be considered for the national team.

However, he has now gone against such standard with the inclusion of Ahmed Musa in the squad for the games against Benin on March 27 and then Lesotho three days later in Lagos.

This FIFA International break has been much criticized by coaches across Europe’s top clubs, with some notable names claiming they may not release their players, if they are required to quarantine for another 10 days upon arrival from their various countries.
