GUNMEN ATTACK KABBA PRISON, SET INMATES FREE

Hundreds of prisoners have escaped from the Medium Federal Correctional Centre in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, North Central Nigeria.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 8, Ayuba Ede who confirmed the jailbreak, said the Commissioner of Police and other heads of security agencies have swung into action to assess the cause of the break.
It was gathered that Gunmen in their tens attacked the prison centre which is on the Kabba – Lokoja highway, on Sunday night through Monday morning while it was raining heavily, killing the military men keeping guard on the road before attacking the centre.
The gunmen thereafter launched attacks on the prison officers before making ways to set all the prisoners free.
At the time of this report, the state’s Security Adviser, Duro-Jerry Omodara, could not be reached as it was reliably confirmed that he is currently on the ground at Kabba with other security agents to ascertain the situation on the ground, with the view of taking necessary action.
