HOUSE WANTS INVESTIGATION OF ORTOM ATTACK, RESPONSIBILITY CLAIMS

Written by on March 23, 2021

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has asked the Department of State Services and the Police to investigate last weekend’s attack on Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and the claims of responsibility and threat allegedly attributed to the Fulani national movement.

During Tuesday’s plenary, the lawmakers also called on Nigerians to be law-abiding and keep faith in the indivisibility, unity and sovereignty of the nation.

The lawmakers however expressed worry over what they described as inflammatory statements attributed to one Umar Amir Shehu and the Fulani National Movement who declared publicly an intention to kill governor Ortom.

While taking notes of the immediate deployment of Federal Criminal Investigation Department personnel to Benue state, they say the assassination attempt on Ortom is an invitation to anarchy, Governor Samuel Ortom was on Saturday, March 20, attacked by more than 15 armed men at his farm along Makurdi-Gboko road.
