Imo polls: inec declares hope Uzodinma as winner of the guber polls.

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress APC, as the winner of the IMO State governorship election held on 11th November 2023.
INEC’s returning officer for the Imo state guber polls, Prof. Fasina Abayomi declared the incumbent Governor of the state, Uzodinma as the winner, having satisfied the requirements of the law.
The Governor garnered a total of 540,308 votes to defeat his closest rival, Samuel Anyanwu of the People’s Democratic Party had a total of 71,503 votes and Nneji Achonu of the Labour Party who got 64,081 votes.
Hope Uzodinma also won in all 27 Local Government Areas of the state to to keep his position at the helm of affairs in the state for the next four years.
Earlier, there were wild scenes at the collation centre, as the state agent for the Labour Party, Callistus Ihejiagwa, was beaten and thrown out of the venue for raising objections to the results being announced by the Returning Officers from the local government areas.
Following the assault, the agent of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Kissinger Ikeokwu, left the venue.
The candidates of the PDP and the Labour Party on Saturday night called for the cancellaton of the election after alleging rigging by the APC with the support of INEC and security agents.
But it was not enough to stop proceedings there after and in the end, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti state, Prof Fasina, the returning officer, proceeded to declare the incumbent Governor as the duly elected candidate for the election.
