JOS PRISON ATTACK: BANDITS TRAPPED, 7 INMATES RE-ARRESTED SAYS POLICE COMMISSIONER

An unspecified number of Bandits who attacked the Jos Correctional centre on Sunday are trapped inside the facility.

Francis Enobore, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the service disclosed this in a statement while giving an update on the incident.

According to Enabore, although they gained entrance to the yard, they were, however, trapped within as men from sister security services were immediately mobilised to assist the armed guards to cordon the perimeter wall and the entire area.

However, Sources from the prison told AIT that the attackers succeeded in burning the intelligence and record rooms and have also killed personnel with several other officers sustaining various degrees of injuries which aided the escape of some inmates with some of the bandits killed in the process after they ran out of ammunition leading to a cease-fire on their side.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Commissioner, CP, Bartholomew Onyeka, says Seven inmates who escaped from the Jos Correctional Facility have been re-arrested.

Onyeka said one prisoner out of the Seven voluntarily handed himself to the Police.

He said efforts are still ongoing to apprehend the hoodlums who carried out the prison break.

The Jos custodial centre which is located at the heart of the city and surrounded by the State Police Headquarters, the DSS Headquarters, A Division of the Nigeria Police as well as the Area Command, was Attacked at about 5:30 pm Sunday by bandits who broke into the Correctional centre shooting sporadically.

As of the time of filing this report, the situation has been brought under control by a joint team of security operatives while stock-taking has begun.
