The police in Kano State said it has arrested ninety-six suspects for offenses such as armed robbery, motor vehicle and mobile phone robbery, drug and substance abuse and kidnapping. The state police disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing journalists.
The suspects were paraded by the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Gumel at the police command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
The State police boss said those arrested included 52 phone robbery suspects, six illicit drug users and dealers as well as 38 others for alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, thugery (Yan Daba) and theft.
He said some of the exhibits recovered include, three locally made guns, some deadly fabricated weapons, four motor vehicles, two tricycles and six motorcycles. He said that 20 cartons of codeine syrup, 45 parcels, 303 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were also recovered from the suspect
The police Commissioner said they were rounded up as part of efforts towards effectively policing the state to ensure a hitch-free transition of power.
On the synergy between the police and other security agencies to ensure effective policing in the state, Gumel said:
We have intensified our drive for policing and other relevant engagements with concerted intelligence-led operations, round-the-clock visibility patrols, synergising with the military and other sister security agencies,
