KANO POLICE ARREST FAKE COP WHO SPECIALIZES IN EXTORTION

Police in Kano has arrested one Abdullahi Sarari, who has been parading himself as a police officer and extorting people in the process.

The command in a Press Release issued by its Public Relations Officer, Haruna Kiyawa, said the command received complaints from three people within Kano Metropolis, on the suspected fake police officer.

Kiyawa said the fake police officer, sometime in January 2022, wore a police uniform with his name, went to a number of shops, made purchases of goods worth One Hundred and Four Thousand Naira, collected their bank account details, and claimed to have made transfers.

He said the owners of the shops did not receive any alert of the payments and because he was in’ Police uniform they allowed him to go.

He however did not pay the outstanding money and refused to answer
their calls, which led to them reporting to the Police.

The command through sustained efforts and prolonged follow-ups arrested the suspect, one Yusuf Abdullahi, also known as Abdullahi Sarari, of Gano Town, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area in Kano State

On investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and further said he was once passionate about joining the Police, tried many times, and failed in exams.

He said he decided to sew the Police uniform which he used to intimidate and defraud members of the public.

Kano State Police Commissioner, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, has ordered a discreet investigation, after which the case will be charged to court for prosecution.
