Uduak Akpan, the killer of the slain Akwa Ibom state job seeker, Iniubong Umoren has been sentenced to death by hanging.
An Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo, the state capital, and presided over by Justice Bassey Nkanang found Uduak guilty on a two-count charge of murder and rape while the father and sister were discharged and acquitted on the charge of accessory after the fact to murder.
On the first count charge of murder Akpan was sentenced to death by hanging while on the second charge of rape, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Drama ensued after the sentencing as Uduak Akpan attempted to escape from the courtroom but was apprehended by security personnel who were strategically positioned.
Relatives of the late Umoren who spoke to newsmen after the judgment expressed joy that justice had been served.
