The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, and former Anambra state Governor, Peter Obi has unveiled the founder of Baze University Abuja and Baba-Ahmed University Kano, Datti Ahmed as his running mate.

Peter Obi made the announcement on Thursday, in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Before this announcement, Labour Party had picked former presidential aide, Doyin Okukpe as a place holder to enable it to meet the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Since then, the party and its presidential candidate have been making wide consultation to make a replacement after talks for an alliance with the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP collapsed on June 15.

Obi was expected to unveil his running mate yesterday but it was shelved because he was said to be in Maiduguri, Borno State for an event.

Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure told journalists yesterday that Obi was on a visit to Maiduguri and could not make it to the venue due to the cancellation of his scheduled flight back to Abuja.

Datti Ahmed who is a former presidential aspirant under the leading opposition party, PDP, also served in the two houses of the National Assembly and holds at least four degrees.
He was also an aspirant for the 2023 Kaduna State Governorship election.
