LAGOS BOAT MISHAP: TWO BODIES RECOVERED, FIFTEEN PERSONS RESCUED AS SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATION CONTINUES

Two bodies have been recovered while fifteen others rescued from a fifteen passenger boat which capsized along Ojo axis of Lagos State Friday evening.
In a statement jointly signed Saturday by the area manager of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Sarat Braimah and the general manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Damilola Emmanuel, the fiber boat with 16 passengers onboard took off from mile 2 enroute Ibeshe.
The boat according to the authorities violated the rules when it set sail at 7.45pm.
Meanwhile some emergency responders who rushed to the scene of the incident after several hours of searching found the boat which is now in the custody of marine police.
It cannot be confirmed if all the passengers wore thier life jackets when the boat capsized.
Rescue operations are still ongoing for possible rescue of more passengers including the boat captain.
