Tottenham Hotspurs Football Club has sacked Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo and his coaching staff, just less than five months after taking charge of the London Football outfit. The Portuguese were relieved of his duties this Monday following an emergency meeting amongst the hierarchy of the board late Sunday following the club’s loss to Manchester United.
The board’s decision was made public on Monday around midday in a statement that read;
The Club can today announce that Nuno and his coaching staff, Cathro, Barbosa, and Dias have been relieved of their duties.
Tottenham’s Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici speaking afterward said;
I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have to take this decision. Nuno is a gentleman and will always be welcomed here, we would like to thank him.
Santo’s dismissal comes after Tottenham lost 3-0 at home to Manchester United, their fourth defeat in six Premier League games. Tottenham is eighth on the Premier League table, 10 points off leaders Chelsea.
Reports suggest that Spurs are in advanced talks with Antonio Conte as they seek a fourth permanent manager in the last three years.
Conte is a former Chelsea manager, winning the West Londoners their last Premier League title in 2017.
Should negotiations reach an amicable conclusion with his potential new employers in North London, he is expected to galvanize the squad and replicate his heroics which saw him win the Italian Serie A with Inter Milan last season, breaking a nine-year winning streak by Juventus.
