Ondo government condemns attack on Women Affairs Commissioner.

Ondo state government has condemned the assault and bodily injury inflicted on the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Bunmi Osadahun by an APC chieftain in the course of palliative distribution in Akoko north-west local government area.

A statement issued by the state commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju says an investigation into the incident has begun, and the full weight of the law will be applied to the assailant, if found guilty.

She notes that an assault on a government official on duty is not only criminal, it is an affront on the government.

Ademola-Olateju reminded the public, that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law prohibits all forms of violence against persons and provides maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishments to offenders.

She noted that the state government will continue to do its best possible to reach the most vulnerable in the distribution of palliatives.

Also, the State Commissioner of Police, Asabi Abiodun has ordered that

the case be transferred to the SCID, Akure for further probe into what led to the assault.

The drama was said to have unfolded during the sharing of palliatives when an APC chieftain, Olumide Awolumate attacked the Ondo Commissioner for women affairs, Olubunmi Osadahun on allegation that the exercise was shrouded in secrecy by government officials.

The commissioner was injured during the attack and was reportedly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Recall that the state government commenced the distribution of the palliatives to the eighteen Local Government areas some few days ago.
