Armed operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services, DSS on Monday sealed up the Ondo State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akure to prevent a protest by youths of the party demanding the whereabouts of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu after he has been absent from the State since April 2023.
The armed security operatives numbering about 50 had stormed the PDP Office as early as 6 a.m. to prevent the youths from protesting.
However, after about an hour of mediation, some selected staff of the party were allowed into the office building.
The Publicity Secretary of the ruling APC in the state, Alex Kalejaye, in a statement alleged that the party has uncovered a plan by the opposition party to instigate a crisis in the state in order to portray the party in bad light ahead of the next year’s governorship election.
Kalejaye, while referring to some PDP leaders in the state, said:
They have entered into an unholy alliance with some elements in APC to foment avoidable crisis in Ondo State.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has uncovered the plans by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to instigate crisis in Akure, the State capital, on Monday.
The essence of the arrangement, it was further gathered, is to create a semblance of political instability in the peaceful State, in addition to portraying the ruling party in a bad light, ahead of the governorship election, coming up next year.
