PRESIDENT TINUBU PROMISES FREE PRESS; CHALLENGES MEDIA ON ERADICATING FAKE NEWS

President Bola Tinubu says his administration will ensure a conducive atmosphere for the press to operate but expects them to uphold their ethical standards.

The president Tinubu came out with this while declaring open the 19th All Editors Conference of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.

The Senior Editors are brainstorming on the theme of their 2023 conference “Stimulating Economic Growth, Technological Advancement: Role of the Media”

President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris stated that the burden on editors is enormous in upholding professional standards.

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom state governor, Umo Eno reminded the media of the need to see themselves as partners with government.

President, Nigeria Guild of Editors, Eze Anaba and chairman of the conference, Sam Amuka said the conference will discuss the role of editors in shaping the economic discourse in the country.

The four-day conference is expected to come out with far reaching resolutions on the state of the media and the nation
