The Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday resolved to serve a motion of impeachment on Governor Sim Fubara over what it alleged as gross misconduct.
The House also removed and suspended indefinitely its leader Ehie Edison after it accused him of being the mastermind behind the fire incident that engulfed the lawmakers’ chambers.
But in a swift reaction, Governor Fubara, who denied having a hand in the fire incident, accused the twenty-four lawmaker who signed the motion for his impeachment of playing out a script.
He also challenged them to tell the world the offence he has committed.
Following Sunday’s fire incident that ravaged their chambers, lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly have decided to convene an emergency session inside the assembly’s auditorium.
Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule accuses the leader of the House, Ehie Edision, and the Rivers State Government House of being behind the arson attack.
In two different motions signed by 24 lawmakers, the House immediately resolved to remove Ehie Edison as leader of the House and also suspend him and three other lawmakers.
The lawmaker representing Omuma State Constituency, Sylvanus Nwankwo thereafter, presented a motion signed by 24 lawmakers calling for the impeachment of the Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara for gross misconduct.
The House wasted no time in passing the motion.
Shortly after the lawmakers had finished their sitting, Governor Sim Fubara decided to visit the scene of the fire incident.
But the Governor was prevented from gaining access to the House of Assembly complex by armed policemen who fired shots and tear gas and used water canon to repel the crowd of supporters that accompanied him.
Governor Fubara then chose to walk back to the Government House, accompanied by hundreds of youths who had trooped out to show solidarity.
He also challenges the Rivers State House of the Assembly to tell the world the offence he has committed.
