Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara says illegal oil bunkering and other acts of oil theft persist in some parts of the state because of the active involvement of members of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
He also raised alarm about two local government areas, Ahaoda East and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, where personnel of the Army openly give protection to individuals and companies engaging in illegal oil bunkering and crude oil theft
Governor Fubara, who on Friday played host to the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, wants the illegal activity brought to an immediate end
The Army Chief has come to visit formations and units under the 6 Division- covering Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom states.
While in town, General Taoreed Lagbaja deemed it necessary to pay Governor Sim Fubara a visit and thank him for the support the Army has continued to enjoy from the Rivers State government.
In return for the generous support enjoyed by the people and government of Rivers State, General Taoreed Lagbaja says the Army will do everything to ensure that the state is safe and secured
Governor Sim Fubara is taking advantage of the visit to draw the attention of the Chief of Army Staff to the issue of illegal oil bunkering in some parts of the state as well as the active collusion of army personnel in the economic sabotage
Governor Fubara who also commiserates with the Army Chief over the loss of some of his men a couple of months ago says his administration will not relent in its support for the Army and other security agencies operating in Rivers State.
