Two-time African footballer of the year and vice captain of the Teranga Lions of Senegal, Sadio Mane is seriously at the risk of missing out from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Bayern Munich forward picked up a leg injury last night and came off in the 20th minute of Bayern’s 6-1 trashing of Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga.

A Club statement issued earlier today clearly stated that he will miss the weekend’s fixture against Schalke 04. It reads in part:

Further examinations will follow in the coming days,

FC Bayern is also in contact with the medical staff of the Senegalese Football Association.

The injury is coming just 13 days before Senegal plays their first match at the FIFA Mundial which kicks in the Arab nation of Qatar on 20th November.

Senegal manager Aliou Cisse is due to announce his World Cup squad on Friday.
Mane is no doubt a key player for the African champions Senegal, who face the Dutch in their opening Group A game on November 21 before taking on hosts Qatar, then Ecuador.

The Champions League winner and former Liverpool forward will sorely be missed by the Lions of Teranga should he fail to recover in time for the tournament.

Mane scored the decisive and winning penalty in a shootout that gave Senegal victory over the Pharaohs of Egypt at the African Cup of Nations in February this year, earning the West African nation their first conquest on the continent.
