SENATE CONFIRMS FORMER SERVICE CHIEFS AS AMBASSADORS

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of the immediate former Service Chiefs as non-career ambassadors designate. The confirmation was made following the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa from Bauchi State.
Earlier, the Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, attempted to draw the attention of his colleagues to a petition against their confirmation but was stopped by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan. The confirmed non-career ambassadors are: General Abayomi Olonisakin (Rtd), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai (Rtd), Vice Admiral Ibok- Ette Ibas (Rtd), Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Rtd), and Air Vice Marshal Muhammad S. Usman (Rtd).
President Muhammadu Buhari on February 4, had asked the Senate to confirm the former Service Chiefs as non-career ambassadors.
