The Supreme Court of Nigeria has struck out the suit seeking to compel the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to zone its presidential ticket to the South.
The judgment is in the appeal filed by former PDP presidential aspirant and immediate past Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Cosmos Ndukwe against the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu challenging the position of the party on the issue of zoning its presidential ticket
PDP in the 2023 presidential primary left the party’s ticket open to interested members from all parts of the country to contest, leading to the victory of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as the standard bearer.
The Panel of Justices said the decision to strike out the suit was on the grounds that the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction to entertain the matter that is an internal affair of PDP.
