THE WEEKND BREAKS TWO GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS.

Canadian Pop Singer, Music Star and Producer, Abel Tesfaye, commonly known as the Weeknd has officially been recognised as the most popular music artist on the planet, a feat that has seen him set two new Guinness World Records titles.

The 33-year-old and only child of Ethiopian immigrants Makkonen Tesfaye and Samrawit Hailu, achieved this record by having the most monthly listeners on Spotify, 111.4 million (as of 20 March 2023)as well as being the First artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

He currently has over 30 million more monthly listeners than second-placed Miley Cyrus (82.4 million). His Spotify success sees his numbers soar above other popular acts including Shakria with 81.7 million, Taylor Swift with 80.3 million and Rihanna at 78.2 million. At the moment, the closets male competitor is Ed Sheeran who has 77.5 million monthly Spotify listeners.

This is would not the first time The Starboy crooner has been on the Guinnes World Records book, he received in 2016, the title for the most streamed album on Spotify for year 2015.
