Tinubu sworn-in as Nigeria’s President.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken his oath of office today as the new President of Nigeria, succeeding former President Muhammadu Buhari at a ceremony that took place in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

71-year-old Tinubu and his vice, Kashim Shettima were sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola. Justice Ariwoola administered the oath of office to them at exactly 10:38 am and 10:28 am respectively. Bringing an end to the 8-year administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

While taking his oath of office, Tinubu swore:

I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, do solemnly swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria that I will preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. So, help me, God

This significant day in Nigeria’s history makes Tinubu the 5th democratically elected President of the country in the 4th Republic.

The ceremony took place amid tight security at the 5,000-capacity Eagle Square venue in the capital, Abuja which had in attendance some African presidents, past Presidents of Nigeria, and other officials.
