The federal government has written to all Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities to resume academic activities from January 18, 2021. This follows an earlier directive by the federal government that officers on Grade Level 12 and below should remain at home for a period of five weeks.
In a letter signed by the deputy Executive Director, Administration of the National universities commission, Chris Maiyaki, the federal government directed universities to reopen on January 18, consistent with the directive of the Presidential Task Force on covID-19. The letter said any further developments will be communicated to universities accordingly.
The NUC added that universities on resumptions of academic activities must under no circumstance violate the full cycle of the semester system, consistent with the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards, BMAS, approved by the National Universities Commission as well as other extant quality assurance standards and guidelines.
It however reminded universities management to strictly adhere to the extant safety protocols and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC guidelines.
