Kano state Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, Rahama Sulaiman, for allegedly kidnapping her six-year-old daughter, Hafsat Kabiru, and demanding N3 million ransom from her husband.
This was disclosed by the Kano State Police Commissioner CP Usaini Gumel, while parading the suspect and other criminals at the Kano Police Command’s headquarters.
Rahama allegedly took her daughter to a nearby relative in Madobi to keep for heron the pretest that she would travel for few days, before calling her husband to inform him of the missing child.
The State Police Commissioner speaking while parading the suspect alongside other criminals in the state said they received a report from the husband, Kabiru Shehu, that his daughter had been kidnapped.
He said:
In a follow-up investigation, the victim was rescued in Madobi LGA and the wife, who was earlier divorced by the husband, confessed to having planned the kidnapping of her daughter.
While being questioned by newsmen, the suspect claimed her reason for kidnapping their daughter was her ex-husbands refusal to assist her with the care of the children for over 10 months. She said:
I called him and told him that our daughter was missing and we went to the police together and reported the matter. Inside the police station, I gave him the number of the guy that will receive the ransom.
She also said she has since regretted her actions and announced that she had reconciled with her husband. Her husband also affirmed that they have both reconciled, claiming she has never done anything of such before.
