Zamfara state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Sokoto has dismissed the petition of the All-Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Bello Mohammed, for lacking merit.

The tribunal awarded a 500, 000 Naira fine against the petitioner, Bello Mohammed, who is challenging the outcome of the March 18 Governorship Election, which brought in Dauda Lawal of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as the Governor of Zamfara State.

The chairman of the three-man panel of justices, Justice Cordelia Ogadi, who read the judgement, said the petitioner did not prove his petition, in which he alleged wrongful collation of election results, exclusion of Maradun local government results, overvoting, and election not conducted in some wards in the state.

The tribunal in its over four-hour judgement, also said the petitioner failed to prove his petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of non-compliance with the electoral act, and corrupt way of conducting the election.

The lead counsel for the petitioner, Usman Sure SAN, said their client will give them further instructions to appeal the tribunal because he feels they were being robbed of the election results.

The election of Dauda Lawal as Governor of Zamfara State had been validated by the Zamfara State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal judgement, delivered Monday, September 18, in Sokoto State.
